SANYA RESORT
Just east of Sanya, on the southern coast of China’s Hainan Island, a mixed-use complex anchored by a new resort hotel (operator to be announced) overlooks the South China Sea. The residential, spa, and hotel towers are arrayed along a path that flows deep into the site, inspired by the undulating tides of Lingshui Bay. This site arrangement allows unobstructed ocean views for every hotel room, residential unit, and even the residential towers existing on the parcel to the north. The towers also form the perimeter of a publicly accessible water park located in the heart of the development. Several environmental factors were addressed with the site design, including tidal restrictions, protection of forested areas, and the minimizing of excavation.
Connected to the water park through a series of amenity spaces and restaurants at the ground level, an elevated platform becomes an iconic arrival moment for the hotel. Guests and visitors are transported upward to an elevated infinity-edge pool, overlooking the beach beyond. Elongated guestrooms provide unparalleled views of the sea, with expansive outdoor terraces for relaxation.
